What happens during a session?

Intake

Before a session takes place, there will be an extensive intake conversation. We will discuss your personal and medical history, as well as the request for help. The actual treatment is separate from the intake conversation so you can make a well-informed decision.

Being Present

An IPT session can take up to 2 hours. You will be lying on a bed (if that feels safe and comfortable for you) covered in blankets in a safe and warm room, or the session will start with you sitting on a chair. For your safety, it is important that you can be fully “present” in your body during the whole session. Being present in the body means that during the treatment, you can stay in contact with your body and the practitioner. Your practitioner will monitor you closely and coach you if necessary.

Under skilful and careful guidance by your practitioner, you are encouraged to stay in contact with your body, fully experiencing any feelings, memories or emotions that may arise at that moment. The practitioner will provide a safe space, in which you will be allowed and encouraged to feel all that needs to be felt, expressed and experienced.

Depending on your request for help, the practitioner can work externally or internally on your pelvis. To ensure safety for both you and the practitioner during this delicate work, the practitioner will ask for and emphasized Embodied Consent in every step of the way.

Embodied Consent means that you, as a client, feel a full “yes” in your head, your heart ánd with your body. So often in our lives, we have “allowed” touch or physical handling that was not 100% within our consent. During an IPT session, you will experience time after time what it is like to actually be “in control” of what is happening to you. That at any moment a yes or a no can be voiced and will be listened to. This alone can be a very empowering experience.

We will take time to guide you through your process, every step of the way, time and time again. This way, you can actually receive the touch so that the session can have its maximum effect.

How are tension and stress released in IPT?

If you would like to read more about how tension is stored in your body, you can read the page about tension.

In a session, we will be trying to release the stress in your pelvis, your body and your mind. By external and internal exploration of the vulva and vagina/penis, scrotum we will find restrictions of the fascia. These restrictions lead to muscular trigger points. Through gentle, slow stretching of the fascia and massaging of trigger points, we invite the tissue to release the tension. With the help of your breath and movement of the body, stored emotions can now move freely through the body while safely being felt and expressed at the same time.

The practitioner will be with you every step of the way and guide you to and through a safe expression of whatever is needed to be felt and expressed.  As a result, instead of a numb or painful feeling, healthy sensitivity will return, which can lead to more feelings of pleasure during sex. Also; healthy, flexible tissue, free from blockages allows the natural self-healing capacity of the body to work its wonders.

The pelvic floor, vagina, vulva, scrotum, penis will be able to go back to their natural state. More balance, connection and awareness of the pelvic area will be experienced. You will then not only have the ability to strengthen but also to relax the muscles in your pelvic bowl. This relaxation is the key to prevent problems due to a tight and/or weak pelvic floor, as mentioned above.

Once the pelvic floor muscles have reached their natural healthy tonus, your practitioner can help you by guiding you with simple exercises. This way, you will be able to keep this healthy state and begin to exercise to find a balance between strengthening and relaxing, so the overall strength of your pelvic muscles can increase healthily.
